Description
Introduction to Electric Melting Furnace An Electric Melting Furnace is an industrial device that uses electrical energy as its core heat source to melt, heat up, or maintain the temperature of materials. It has widely replaced traditional fuel-fired furnaces and become a key piece of equipment in modern smelting and material processing fields. Its core principle lies in converting electrical energy into thermal energy—by means of resistance heating, electromagnetic induction, or arc discharge, energy is transferred to materials directly or indirectly, bringing them to a molten state to meet subsequent processing needs.
Electric melting furnaces are mainly categorized into three types based on their heating methods: First, **Induction Electric Melting Furnaces**, which generate eddy currents in metal materials through high-frequency/medium-frequency electromagnetic fields to produce heat. They feature high heating efficiency (up to 70%-90%) and fast temperature rise, making them suitable for smelting ferrous metals, copper, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals. Second, **Resistance Electric Melting Furnaces**, which rely on heating elements such as resistance wires and silicon carbide rods to generate heat. They offer high temperature control precision (with an error margin of ±1℃) and are mostly used for melting and sintering non-metallic materials like glass and ceramics. Third, **Arc Electric Melting Furnaces**, which generate ultra-high temperatures (over 2000℃) through arcs between electrodes and materials, applicable for smelting large-scale steel or special alloys.
In terms of application scenarios, electric melting furnaces cover both industrial and scientific research fields: Industrially, they are used for metal alloy preparation, glassware production, and ceramic green body firing; in scientific research, small-sized electric melting furnaces can simulate high-temperature environments to support research on material properties.
